Slightly different approach to the match report today. Rather than working the through the match minute by minute I will assesss the performance as a whole. To be honest the pattern of the match was the same from kick off to the final whistle with just slight changes coming about through substitutions.
The 3-0 final score line was probably not a true reflection of the game, with Liam only having one save to make during the whole game. Our approach play was of a very high standard with some excellent passing. We had numerous opportunities in the first half to take the lead but sqaundered them all. I think the 0-0 half time score made some people feel that we hadn't played well during the opening period, this though wasn't the case. All that was missing was goals. We could very easily have been 3 or 4 goals to the good at half time and everyone would have been eulogising over the performance.
In training we have worked hard on passing and moving and are reaping the benifits of this. Now we are back training on grass we can work more on shooting practice!! During the full 70 minutes today some of the short passing was excellent. Luke Bowden broke play up and then played simple passes. Kieran and George dominated midfield and attempted to spread play whenever possible. On the flanks Jack Webster and Jaydan were a constant thorn in Stainings side and fed many good balls into the box.
As I said earlier Liam had a very quiet match mainly due to excellent work in front of him by Luke T. Andy, JT and Jack Wrigley. Down the right side JT forged forward numerous times and linked well with Brent and Jack Webster.
The play in the second half didn't alter much from our dominance in the first. Dogged defending by Staining thwarted us several times. The introduction of Harry had sparked new impetus into our game and he scored our first and set up the second for Jaydan in quick succession. The football continued to flow with Nathan and Alan contributing well and putting more dangerous balls into the box.
Harry scored our final goal with a cross shot and was unlucky not to complete his hat trick late on.
All in all a more than satisfactory performance that was only lacking more goals that our build up play deserved. MotM awards went to Harry (parents) and Luke B (managers). The main thing to take from the game is the excellent passing throughout the team with every player looking confident on the ball, long may this continue.
Well done lads,
Thanks for all the help before and after the game and great to see Pete getting close to full fitness on the line.
