Clarets v Blues
Apologies for a brief match report .
Firstly I'd like to say that the match was a credit to Layton Juniors with both teams giving their all. The game was played in a great spirit with a high level of commitment.
We started on the front foot and created a couple of early chances that we failed to convert. Our defence coped well with a series of long through balls. Our pressure eventually paid off when we scored 2 goals in the space of 5 minutes. Jaydan and Harry both scoring from the edge of the box. 2-0. Clarets continued to push forward and were rewarded with a headed goal at the far post. 2-1.
We spurned a couple more chances before the break but failed to capitalise. Liam also made a fine last ditch tackle at a forwards feet. HT 2-1.
Into the second half we continued spurn to chances, but eventually extended our lead when Brent fired home excellently under a lot of pressure. 3-1. Every credit to the Clarets who continued to press and had a couple of long range shots go wide. Brent and Jaydan both missed the target when well placed and Clarets pushed forward and pulled a goal back after some sloppy defending. 3-2.
In the final minutes we continued to miss chances but fortunately we weren't made to pay largely thanks to Liam who pulled off a fine save near the end. FT 3-2
Not the prettiest of spectacles and probably more enjoyable to watch for a neutral but once again we showed we can win in hard fought games when we don't have the opportunity to play as much football as we would like.
MotM awards went to Luke B (parents) and Liam (managers). Once again well done to all the lads for another great workman like performance.
