Fantastic. It is not often after a defeat that the team receives the type of praise that was lavished on them at the final whistle at Fishers Field. The performance from the lads was exactly what we were hoping for. I use the word hope advisedly. Many teams have gone to play Foxhall and been psychologically beaten before a ball has been kicked. We hoped this wouldn't happen to us. We should have had more faith, every lad played to the best of their ability with 100% effort.
Trailing 2-0 early on it would have been easy to throw in the towel and go like lambs to the slaughter as many have done before. Layton Blues are made of stronger stuff though and gave Foxhall the fright of their lives as we dominated the next 50 minutes of play.
Goals from George and Lewis brought us level 15 minutes into the second half and on the balance of play we were going to go on and win the game. Unfortunately things didn't pan out that way and we conceded 2 late goals.
It really was a travesty that we came out of the game with nothing to show for it, having outplayed one of the best teams on the Fylde Coast for a large portion of the game. After the early setback we knuckled down and more than matched Foxhall in every department. Our defence were dominant and in midfield some of our football was exceptional. Up front we ran Foxhall ragged. But it wasn't to be.
Since the match we have spoken to lots of people, some linked to Layton others not. To a man they said how unlucky we were. This includes representatives from Foxhall and we thank them for their kind words.
We are so proud of the performance and know that despite the defeat the lads will take great cofidence from the performance. It was once again great to see how the lads took on board things we worked on in training.
MoTM awards were nearly impossible as they could of gone to anyone. The winners were, Andrew (parents) and Jaydan (managers).
Once again well done all of you!
