Jekyll and Hyde
How can the same team turn in 2 performances that are so contrasting in the space of a week?
Today the lads put right all the wrongs from last week and hopefully this will be a catalyst to a good run of performances.
The commitment and effort today was fantastic and some of the football was as good as we have ever played. Credit to all of them for taking on board the information we have given them in the last week and acting on it.
From the off today we could tell the attitude was spot on. With everyone working for each other we soon went into a 3 goal lead. A brace from Jack Webster and one from George put us in a strong position. Thornton pulled a goal back at this stage and this could have knocked the wind out of our sails but today it had the opposite effect. It only served to galvanise us and we scored 3 more before half time through Jaydan, Lewis (pen) and Jack Webster who completed a fine hat trick.
By half time we made all our 5 changes but this didn't disrupt our performance. If anything we played our even better football in the second period. It was great to see the lads releasing the ball early and realising that a short pass backwards can be as benificial as a long ball forward. our short passing was pulling Thornton all over the place and causing gaps for us to take advantage of. We scored a further 3 goals (Nathan, Luke B and Alan) and conceded one to make the final score 9-2.
I won't single out players today as every single one of them played fantastically, doing exactly as we asked. So well done to all of you.
Parents MoM went to George and Managers went to Luke T.
Hopefully in the next few weeks i will be able to do fuller match reports as time permits.
Thanks to all parents who helped before and after the match. Special thanks to Peter Bend for once again running the line and Ian (one of the Thornton Players dad) who referered the match.
Once again well done and keep up the hard work.
