Layton Blues v Kirkham
Firstly we would like to welcome Brent to the team who will be a great addition to the squad.
Todays game was a fantastic advert for U13 football and all players involved, from both teams can be very proud of their efforts.
It is an old footballing cliche to say it is was a game of 2 halves, but that is exactly what it was today. In the first half the only thing we didn't do was score and somehow managed to concede 3. Prior to the match we stressed the importance of not letting the ball bounce but unfortunately our advice wasn't heeded and 2 of Kirkhams goals came as a result of this failing. To be 3-0 down at half time was remarkable considering the amount of possession and chances we had. George missed an early chance and Jaydan was unlucky after a fantastic solo run. The 2 Jacks out wide delivered some good balls into the box but we failed to convert them into goals. Despite conceding 3 goals our defence was strong during open play with Connor and Andrew looking solid. Alan was reliable as ever and Jenson slotted in to good effect when JT went off feeling unwell. HT 0-3.
Brent came on to make his debut and Luke T came back after injury, so as the 2nd half began we needed an early strike to get back into the game. Lewis duly obliged with a fine 25 yard strike over the keepers head. We continued to press and peppered the Kirkham goal. George hit a post and Jack Webster came close. Nathan came on at left back and provided some telling passes for the forwards. Jaydan scored our second direct from a freekick after Brent was fouled on the edge of the box.
We continued to press forward and got caught on the break a couple of times. Andrew and Luke B held firm and on the one occassion they were beaten Liam made a fine save with his foot. Jenson continued to play some neat football on the right creating another chance for Jack. We eventually got our deserved equaliser when Jaydan got his second with a fine strike. 3-3.
Both teams had late chances to score a winner but didn't take them. FT 3-3.
For a neutral this will have been a fine game to watch. We feel we were a little unlucky not to win the game but showed great determination to come back from a 3-0 deficit so it must be looked on as a good point. Some of the football we played especially in the second half was ajoy to behold. Kirkham must also take credit for the part they played in the match.
MotM awards went to Liam (parents) and Jaydan (managers) but once again everyone can take enormous credit for the way we fought back. It would of been all to easy to let our heads drop at half time and go on to lose the game, so well done to all of you for the effort you put in.
Well done everyone today.
